Contributing to the accomplishment of a sustainable environment is a priority for CIFIVE, reason for which, it executes an environmental policy that includes every stratum of the company.

In this sense, the environmental policy sets reachable goals and objectives formulated in an “environmental management plan” that embraces environmental criteria, and puts into practice the use of technologies that enable the continuous improvement of the technical aspects related to environment protection.

Fresh water used in this process is internally recycled, with the aim of increasing efficiency in its use and reducing the necessary amount per ton of manufactured solid board.

Residual water passes through a thickener where fibers are recovered and then sent back to the process.

Filtered water is later on treated in a clarifier by floating, and flotated material is recovered in the “filler” pulp line. The clarified liquid is treated in a chlorination camera and is subsequently poured in as a final effluent. Moreover, untreated effluent goes to contingency pools for emergency stops, to be resent to the primary treatment system and carry out the reprocessing. Solid waste produced in the different stages of solid board preparation is sent to local landfills.

Thus, CIFIVE tends to establish a balance between the development of the activity and the environment. This is achieved by means of continuous improvement, costs reduction, the optimization of electricity, fuels and water consumption, the minimization of waste material generation and effluents, and also, the adoption of security and hygiene measures that guarantee the preservation of the workers’ quality of life.
